Ephesians 4
The Ministry of the Word
Ephesians 4:11 'And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;'
These are ministries not offices in the church.
The names apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher, refers to the different ways in which scripture is preached and taught.
The apostles' doctrine is foundational teaching upon which the church stands.
Prophetic teaching is inspirational and timely. It is not new revelation; it is entirely scriptural and can be judged by scripture.
Evangelistic preaching presents the gospel message and encourages believers in their Christian life.
Pastoral teaching not only cares for believers, it also warns against false teaching.
Teaching is bible teaching that is both expository and explanatory.
All ministries should be judged by believers who should be learning to discern (Hebrews 5v14).
Leaders and preachers who elevate themselves are wolves who can appear to be lambs until a believer confronts them with scripture.
Christians have been programmed not to judge by leaders and preachers who do not hold themselves accountable to scripture.
Not only should we judge these false teachers who call themselves apostles and prophets, we should avoid them like the plague.
