New Testament Verses

Romans

Propitiation; forgiveness; and reconciliation.

Romans 3:25 ‘Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,’

Propitiation is sometimes translated 'mercy seat' (see Hebrews 9:5).

It is the place of covering from the wrath of God towards sin;

and the covering of the mercy of God towards the sinner.

The justice of God cannot allow sin to be unpunished;

and the holiness of God can never be reconciled

with the sinful nature of mankind.

In Christ there is forgiveness;

His sacrifice satisfied the righteous demands of the holiness of God.

He died in our place.

In Christ there is reconciliation with God;

His death and resurrection changed our sinful condition

into the righteousness of God.

Christ is our life.
