New Life

Text:  Romans 8:2  ‘For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.’

At the train station there is a sign at the end of the platform.

‘Passengers must not pass this point’.

If this law is disobeyed the passenger can be prosecuted, but if he or she walks onto the track the person may be killed.

The law is there to protect them.

Everyone on the platform is under the law to obey the sign.

But for those who board the train the sign no longer applies.

The train will take the person past the sign and towards his or her destination.

The train is under a different law.

When we are on the train we are yielding to the control of another, but we know where the train is going.

If we do not yield to the control of another, we will remain under the law.

In the Christian life it is the same.

Until we ‘put on the Lord Jesus Christ’ we are under the law.

When we ‘put on the Lord Jesus Christ’ we are no longer under the law of sin and death but we are under the new law of ‘the Spirit and life in Christ Jesus’.

The difference now is that the Lord is in control not us.

When we want to be in control then we are like those on the platform who cannot move beyond a certain point because the law stops them.

When we put on the Lord Jesus Christ then we move beyond the law into new life

It is easy to know those who have put on the Lord Jesus because they become more and more like Him. They are not under the law; they are moving towards the destination ‘being changed into His likeness’.

2 Corinthians 3:18  ‘But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.’
