This letter was
written concerning the expense of having two travelling companions. Robert Doeg planned to accompany Isaac Sharp to Faroes. Robert was fluent in Danish. The Norwegian, Asbjorn Kloster had been the travelling
companion of Isaac Sharp in 1861 and now it was found to be possible for him to
accompany Isaac Sharp again.
Isaac Sharp wrote
seeking advice and counsel about the expense of taking two companions.
Robert Doeg did not travel.

To the Committee
of the Meeting for Sufferings
Dear Friends
It now devolves upon me to ask your solid deliberating on the enclosed minute of Carlisle Monthly Meeting, liberating our friend Robert Doeg, subject to the sanction of the Meeting for Sufferings for religious service in the Faroe Islands.
Robert Doeg having reached this country on the eve of Carlisle Monthly Meeting and before the arrival of his letter to me (copy enclosed) my first internation of his prospects was received along with the Carlisle Minute.
Having taken a little time for calm deliberating my own mind is in favour of Robert Doeg being encouraged to go with me, but a great difficulty presents as regards my beloved Icelandic companion.
So far as I know Asbjorn Kloster is looking steadily forward and preparing to leave Christiania about the 10th of 4th Month for Faroe (via England) and if his mind, is religiously exercised, with a tender feeling for the welfare of the inhabitants for which relief might be afforded by his bearing me company, I should feel it a serious thing, to take any step, the effect of which might be to put in by – On the then hand were my friend Asbjorn Kloster going, simply as my interpreter and companion, albeit in a strong feeling of that love which would seek to gather all – the largely increased cost in addition to some difficulty attendant on three travelling together in so wild a region, would appear to require the wishes stating sanction of the Meeting for Sufferings in its favour – Under all these circumstances I now seek the benefit of your advice to counsel.
Any letter dated on 4th day would probably reach me before leaving home for Ireland...
The minute is forwarded at the request of our friend Robert Doeg and on his behalf.
I am with love
Your affectionate friend
Isaac Sharp.
