Text: 1 Timothy 2:1

Introduction: Proseuche the term used for prayer in general.

• It is always addressed to God.
• This is not the cry of desperation, but it is where we make mention of one another in our prayers (Romans 1:9).
• It is bringing our requests before the Lord (Philippians 4:6).
• Prayer should be the trademark of every believer.

Introductory illustration: Prayer was essential to the Jews.

• The Jews had the hour of prayer three times a day, Acts 3:1.

• If there was no synagogue the Jews began a place of prayer, Acts 16:13.
• The Temple was called a house of prayer for all nations, Mark 11:17.

Personal Testimony:Prayer is the key to living a victorious Christian life.

Exposition:

1. Prayer (proseuche) is always addressed to God, Matthew 6:6.

• The Pharisees prayed to be seen, Matthew 6:5.
• Jesus said "pray in secret" and the answer (reward) will be evident to all.

2. Prayer must be specific, Matthew 6:7.

• Don"t use vain repetitions. The Father knows what we need, Matt. 6:8.
• Prayer is the means that God has provided for us to receive.
• We must ask with right motives, James 4:2-3.

3. The early Church was noted for prayer, Acts 2:42.

• When Peter was in prison the Church prayed without ceasing, Acts 12:5.
• Paul in Philippi - Prayer was a daily concern, Acts 16:16.

4. Prayer is a great weapon that God has provided for the Church.

• Elijah "with prayer he prayed", James 5:17.
• The enemy seeks to prevent the Church using this weapon of power.
• Jesus prayed all night, Luke 6:12.
• The Apostles gave themselves to prayer, Acts 6:4.
• Paul tells every believer to "pray without ceasing", 1 Thess.5:17.

Conclusion:

1) Our prayer life is to be hidden and God will reward us in the open.

2) Our prayers must be specific. Know what we want and ask with confidence.

3) Prayer was essential to the early Church and a daily concern.

4)Prayer is the mighty weapon God has given the Church to use. The devil seeks to stop the Church in the use of prayer.
